Equally important, and perhaps even more difficult than disarma ment, is the restoration of some moral sense and the resumption of genuine responsibility. Without this it is illusory for us to speak of freedom and "control. " Unfortunately, even where moral principles are still regarded with some degree of respect, morality has lost touch with the realities of our situation.
When I pray for peace I pray to be protected not only from the Reds but also from the folly and blindness of my own country. When I pray for peace, I pray not only that the enemies of my country may cease to want war, but above all that my own country will cease to do the things that make war inevitable.
